You can’t always get what you want… but how do you make sure you get more of the ‘ideal clients’ your practice needs, and fewer of those prospects that just don’t fit?
When I talk to law firms, a frequent concern is not necessarily ‘how do I attract more clients?‘, but ‘how do i attract more high quality clients?’
As someone who has worn the client hat myself, I can tell you that part of the solution is communication.
Think of it this way. I go to Google and type in “find criminal lawyer Toronto”. The first half a dozen or so results are paid google ads. The other first page results are those who have spent time or money on SEO, not necessarily those that are the best match for me. I never go past the first page. Who does?
From the websites I land on, everyone seems to do everything. Maybe they all do? Is the person who handles ‘assault with a weapon’ charges the same person one would go to for ‘impaired driving’? Are they in the same hourly price range?
Similarly, on employment lawyer websites, it’s often difficult to see who represents individuals and who represents employers. Those who represent individuals may specialize in management level employees, but how is one supposed to find this out?
We’ve said it before. We’ll say it again. It’s really hard to figure out match and fit from the information gleaned from typical law firm websites. Even if the information is there, it takes a long time for the typical client to sort through to the relevant details.
Figure out the type of clients you really want, and focus your marketing accordingly. One easy way to do this is by signing up for a profile on Kabuk, where clients can search by very specific criteria and connect with legal providers who meet their needs, and have the availability to do so.
